USA/BFA to Host 2012 World Hot Air Balloon Championship Andy Baird reports from the CIA annual meeting in Europe that the BFA's bid to host the 2012 Hot Air Balloon World Championship was approved unanimously. The host city will be Battle Creek, Michigan. A pre-Worlds event will also be planned for 2011. Dates and other details will be forthcoming.
First time event in a long while, 35 competitive balloons and 5 fiesta, in rural country-side of the most beautiful Germanic city in Michigan. Frankenmuth will also host over the Memorial Day Weekend a major dog show, called Dog Bowl, outdoor Great Lakes Championship for Ironmen and Ironjills, known as the Lumberjack Bowl, and a bicycle race by the name of the Tour de Frankenmuth.
The BFA Hot Air Competition Division (HACD) and the Holiday Balloon Fest, Inc. (HBF) are pleased to announce that the 44th US National Championship will return to Battle Creek (Calhoun County), Michigan August 23-28, 2010. The pilot registration and general briefing will take place on Monday
afternoon, August 23rd. A total of nine competitive flights (5 AM & 4
PM) are scheduled starting Tuesday AM, August 24th and concludes on
Saturday AM, August 28th.
HBF to Host U.S. National Championship On behalf of the Board of Directors, Chair Committees, dedicated Volunteers, and our Sponsors, I’m proud to welcome all our guests to the 43rd US National Hot Air Balloon Championship. This is the first year for Battle Creek to host the US Nationals and it will be exciting time for everyone that attends. We are proud to team up with the Balloon Federation of America and bring this highly competitive balloon event to our community and crown a US National Champion! This event is the first to be revealed from an ambitious four year plan of Ballooning in Battle Creek! We focus our efforts on safety of everyone involved and educating our youth by introducing them to our sport. We also provide a quality event for our visiting aeronauts and their families. In addition, we are dedicated to the continuation of this event as the only US National event in our country. I hope that you will be as excited as our pilots are flying over Battle Creek! The entire Holiday Balloon Fest, Inc. staff are all volunteers of our non-profit organization and will be making every effort to make you feel like special guests during the Family oriented, Fun-filled, Free event we can possibly produce. We are confident that balloonists from all around the nation will unite in the tradition of Friendship, Fellowship, and Fun and of course sportsmanship. You too will be able to experience that camaraderie during your visit by walking around the balloons and interacting with the Pilots during the Balloon Glows at Kellogg Community College near downtown Battle Creek. I’m proud to have directed the Holiday Balloon Fest, Inc. since it’s creation and to be hosting Pilots and their crews from our community, state, and across our nation.
